As the festive season approaches, Kouga Municipality is implementing measures to ensure a safe, enjoyable holiday experience for both residents and visitors. With Blue Flag beaches, enhanced law enforcement, and traffic safety plans, the municipality is positioning itself as a top holiday destination for Nelson Mandela Bay residents and beyond.
Blue Flag Beaches Ready to Shine
Dolphin Beach in Jeffreys Bay and Cape St Francis Beach have earned the coveted Blue Flag status for the 2024/2025 season, meeting high standards in water quality, safety, and environmental education. Dolphin Beach will be Blue Flag certified from December 1, 2024, to April 30, 2025, and Cape St Francis from December 2, 2024, to February 28, 2025. Lifeguards will be on duty from 08:00 to 17:00 daily, and both beaches will offer accessible facilities, including disability ramps and amphibian wheelchairs.
Lifeguard services will also be available at additional beaches during peak season, ensuring safe swimming across Kouga’s coastline.
Enhanced Traffic Safety Measures
The municipality has implemented a comprehensive traffic management plan, including enhanced patrols and zero-tolerance enforcement. Measures will target drunk driving, seatbelt compliance, and overloading, with speed monitoring in place. Mayor Hattingh Bornman urged everyone to prioritize road safety for a safe holiday season.
24/7 Law Enforcement Coverage
The municipality’s law enforcement teams, supported by private security and Neighborhood Watches, will patrol key areas like Jeffreys Bay, St Francis Bay, and Humansdorp. These patrols will ensure public safety in busy tourist areas, with additional beach security during early morning hours.
Bornman reassured residents, saying, “Every measure has been taken to ensure a festive season that is both enjoyable and secure.”
Kouga Municipality is ready to provide a safe, memorable holiday experience for all visitors and residents.
