SUNDAE Instyle, Nelson Mandela Bay’s new bimonthly fashion event starts on July 15 with a lineup of local designers ready to impress.
Models dressed by Truly Karin, House of Ozzie, Just Designs, Nandipha Kofi Designs and Thembani Selani will take centre stage at Black Impala showcasing their diverse fashion stylings.
041 caught up with some of the Sundae Instyle Designers to find out what makes them tick.
Truly Karin

Founded by Karin Roman. Truly Karin is a proudly local SA brand based in Uitenhage Eastern Cape. Karin started making clothes as a hobby, enrolling in classes as something to do for fun. “ I never knew I had this hidden talent until I went for sewing classes and discovered my passion for fashion,” she says.
She started her brand in 2019 going full time in 2020 when she was retrenched from her corporate job.
“Truly Karin’s vision is to make women look beautiful and feel confident about themselves
through the service we provide. We pride ourselves in providing unique garments and quality service,” she said.
NKD

NKD is the brainchild of Motherwell fashion designer and modelling coach Nandipha Kofi.
“I fell in love with fashion at the early age of 5, I used to take my mom’s clothes and make items for myself. My Mom used to help me cut her pants and use the legs to make a skirt for me and my cousin,” she said.
She hand-sewed clothes throughout her school years and ended up studying fashion design at Damelin College.
“I’ve been sewing clothes since 2010 and I will continue with my passion till the last day of my life for the love of fashion,” she said.
Just Creations

Just Creations was established by Joe Slovo’s Yolanda Brown in 2019. What started as a fun little project designing clothes for herself and her friends for a photoshoot has become a booming design business.
Having graduated with Honours in Psychology obtained from Rhodes University Yolanda has proven that she can balance her academic and creative sides.
“It was mainly sewing and make-up services, but later evolved into nails, hair installation and styling,” she said.
House of Ozzie

House of Ozzie is an African brand owned and operated by women, offering custom-made garments for all. The company specializes in creating unique and beautiful pieces that cater to individual styles, sizes, and preferences.
Head up by creative director Tham-Tham Uduojie, House of Ozzie is dedicated to promoting African culture through fashion, with their designs often featuring bold prints, vibrant colours, and traditional patterns. The company is committed to empowering African women and artisans, as many of the brand’s fabrics are sourced from local markets and artisans.
