FOR the next few weeks, we will be asking the people of Nelson Mandela Bay what they love about the metro.
We hope to shine some light on just what it is that makes Nelson Mandela Bay and its residents so proud to call it home. Please introduce yourself
Hey, I’m T. Also known as Tanya. An Agency Director full time, and part time proudly South African and proudly Local micro InstaBlogger, “Just Me, T”. An unashamedly proud NMB Lover. No, seriously, I don’t think anyone outside of our beautiful City actually realize just how amazing it is!
Where do you always take guests, to show off NMB?
How can you not brag about our insanely beautiful coastline? A trip from the Beachfront (which hands down has to be THE BEST Coastal City Beachfront in SA!) starting with our pristine blue fag beaches, cruising out along Marine Drive and allowing the coastline to unfold in all its glory into a more wild-like surf. Ending up at the beautiful panoramic view at “Schoenies” and wrapping it all up with the breathtaking sunsets at “Sards”.
Where is your favourite place to eat?
With a limitless variety to choose from, I’d have to go for the best-kept local secrets. If you want to get your hands dirty and just consume yourself with flavours, and food that’s so good it won’t even have a chance to get cold (no seriously, you’re lucky if you even arrive home with a full takeaway):
1. The Nose Pizza – THE BEST artisanal all-original homemade Italian Pizza
2. This Is Eat – for the most finger-licking best prawns and seafood, fresh from the ocean and in the authentic setting of the harbour.
3. Cubata – this all-original Portuguese restaurant started with humble beginnings and they’ve kept true to their flavour… expect mismatched plates and cutlery … actually forget about even using cutlery! Their ribs and chips will have your hands in a hot mess!
4. Alert if you see the FOONGS truck at any point as you drive through this beautiful City, STOP and grab a few of their spring rolls … and why not throw in a Veld Box too!
Last but not least, for a more sophisticated occasion: the Chef run MUSE in Stanley Street will have you in awe with their IG-style presentation tricks and flavours!
Where is your favourite place to relax?
Anywhere in the outdoors in PE, whether it’s the beach, or a hike through our beautiful inner city Nature Reserve, Baakens Valley – possibly another of our best-kept secrets.
Which spot holds real significance for you?
Sardinia Bay is hands down my place to go for resetting. The sound of the waves crashing, the feel of the sand, and just the immersion in saltwater therapy. It’s my place to recharge my soul, to celebrate the good and throw to the sea the heavy. Once you’ve been there, you’ll understand.
Where do you like to shop?
I am all for convenience, so Walmer Park is my go-to – it has something of everything for me. When I have time to explore, then it’s the variety of local markets where you’ll find me; stocking up on some fresh local produce or hunting down my favourite food trucks.
Which is your favourite NMB market?
Definitely the Locally Yours, and Bohemian Windsong Markets.
Where can you be found on weekends?
If I’m not enjoying my own garden with my Hubby and furkids, we’ll be at the beach or hunting down a market.
What have you not done in the Bay yet but really want to?
The Crossways Market is one on my to-do list which I just haven’t made yet; as well as the Inner City Enduro (you’ll have to look this one up to surprise yourself with just how freaking on point we are with all the cool things to do!). Also, believe it or not, I have yet to visit our beautiful art galleries .. another on my to-do list!
What is your wish for the city?
I hope those who reside here treat her well and realize that we all have a part to play in keeping her clean and in a good way.
