Introducing Nakita De Souza’s Nelson Mandela Bay

WE have been asking the people of Nelson Mandela Bay what they love about the metro. We hope to shine some light on just what it is that makes Nelson Mandela Bay and its residents so proud to call it home.

Please introduce yourself

I am Nakita, I am a wife and dog mom to my 2 furbabies Goku and Loki. I love being in the kitchen cooking and trying out new hacks. I also love anything pretty, meaning having too much clothing but nothing to wear, ever! Let me share a little bit of our beautiful city through my eyes.

Favourite places to eat?

My ultimate go-to for a never failing hearty warm curry is Royal Delhi, based in Richmond Hill. My personal order when visiting is a Malabar curry with chilli garlic naan. Another great choice is THIS IS EAT situated at the harbour, grilled or deep-fried fish served with some leka salty chips and great tasting “pink sauce”.

Which spot holds real significance to you?

Addo Elephant Park! What an experience it is to see those majestic giants! They are so close you can almost touch them. The park even has a little braai/picnic area halfway through the drive, just be sure to look out for those sneaky monkeys!

Where is your favourite place to relax?

P.E. has some beautiful beaches. Taking our fur babies out on a walk along the Sacramento hiking trail. Another great way to relax is to catch the sunset on the dunes at Sardinia Bay.

Where can you be found on weekends?

If I’m not in the kitchen trying out new dishes or going out on walks, we will be out in the Town shopping, walking the “Main street” and making a stop at Pier 14 Shopping centre. Did you know Pier 14 is Port Elizabeth’s first and only themed lifestyle shopping centre? A Lot of people have a negative view of our busy Town but our CBD is filled with so many beautiful Historical buildings. Enjoying a good night out dancing, our last night out dancing was hosted at Rooftop Garden Bar, which regularly hosts club events. Good music, Tapas and great views of the Donkin Village on the 1 side and beautiful abandoned historical buildings and sea view on the other.

What have you not done in the Bay yet but really want to?

Heavenly stables! This is a horse-riding ranch. They offer horse riding sessions along the beach! How cool is that? I definitely want to book a ride once the warmer days approach.

Don’t forget to sprinkle kindness
