Event Highlights

Global Humane, the international brand of American Humane, presented this significant award in a heartfelt ceremony. The event was attended by notable guests and animal wellness advocates, all gathered to celebrate John Payne’s remarkable contributions.

John Payne’s Remarkable Journey

John Payne, founder of Compassion-First Pet Hospitals, has revolutionised veterinary health and animal welfare. Serving as President and CEO from 2014 to 2020, he expanded Compassion-First into a leading family of speciality and emergency veterinary hospitals across the United States, now known as NVA Compassion-First.

Recognising True Heroes

John joins a select group of Global Humanitarian Medal recipients, including the late Betty White and conservationist Adrian Gardiner. “John Payne has proven himself to be a leading advocate for animal welfare,” said Dr. Robin Ganzert, President and CEO of Global Humane. “His work has made for a better planet for all the world’s animals.”

A Lifetime of Achievement

The Global Humanitarian Award honours individuals with a phenomenal impact on animal and human welfare. This award, only the second presented in Africa, highlights Global Humane’s expanding efforts across the continent through the Global Humane Conservation Fund of Africa (GH-CFA).

John Payne’s Vision

“To be able to expand the reach of what we do through American Humane to other parts of the world is extremely important,” said John Payne. “You cannot properly address animal welfare in just one country; you have to do it globally.”

John’s journey began with the profound realization that the human-animal bond embodies empathy and compassion. “John’s efforts have transformed the lives of countless animals and touched the hearts of individuals worldwide,” noted Dr. Ganzert. “His work is a reminder of the connection between humans and animals—a connection that can heal and inspire.”

A Legacy of Compassion

As we honour John Payne with the Global Humanitarian Medal, we celebrate his achievements and reaffirm our commitment to a more compassionate world. His dedication and advocacy continue to inspire.
