As a lifelong fan of animation, I couldn’t contain my excitement when I received VIP tickets to the opening night of the Anime Festival at Ster-Kinekor, thanks to Gravel Road Films- writes 041Animation columnist Faziela Harris-Davids.

The festival kicked off with My Neighbour Totoro at The Labia Theatre in Cape Town, and I was there, along with other Studio Ghibli enthusiasts, braving the chilly evening to witness the magic unfold on the big screen.
The atmosphere was electric, with fans dressed up as their favourite characters. I had just finished putting the last touches on my own costume that morning, and it was heartwarming to see others embracing the spirit of the event as well. Reliving My Neighbour Totoro in such a vibrant setting was nothing short of magical.
But if this is the first you’re hearing about the Anime Festival, don’t worry! There’s still plenty more to enjoy. Gravel Road Films will be screening Spirited Away on 23rd August, accompanied by exciting pop-up events in Cape Town and Johannesburg.
