Comic Con Africa, the continent’s largest Pop Culture & Gaming festival, returns for its 5th year. Each year I tell myself I need to plan for this cause the FOMO is real but every year I feel like it sneaks up on me and I miss it. But one day….one day….
Comic Con Africa has become a festival where visitors can embrace being themselves, regardless of their differences. This self-expressive festival allows attendees to experience the best in pop culture and enjoy a tangible connection with brands and fandoms. Featuring collaborations and unique cultural moments that encompass merch, comics, gaming, film, and food. Tickets start @ R200 for a full-day access pass and a weekend pass will get you full access for only R700. A ticket to Comic Con Africa will grant you access to all feature areas and content zones such as the Main Stage, Artist Alley, Gaming, Pop Culture c stage, Cosplay Central, KidsCon and more.
Some feature events from this years Con include the following:
- Meet and greet with Hollywood A-lister Joe Manganiello. Limited photo and autograph ops slots are available. Please note that these are priced separately from the access passes.
- Trading Card Games – Learn to Play. Step into the world of trading card games and learn how to play some of the most popular titles Pokémon TCG, Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG, and Star Wars Unlimited.
- Articulated Collectables pop-up time capsule. Experience the nostalgia of collectables from the recent past! Articulated Collectables will be showcasing vintage 80’s and 90’s toys and collectables.
- The Creative Brick Showcase is the perfect event for all Lego brick enthusiasts. Explore incredible LEGO® creations, meet fellow brick enthusiasts and stand a chance to win great spot prizes.
- As the official partner of the Con, Toyota SA will be bringing an incredible gaming experience with the Toyota Gaming Engine. Titles and tournaments are still to be announced.
- Otaku Town will allow you to immerse yourself in a thrilling fusion of anime, manga, and Japanese pop culture.
- Geek Meet & Mingle is a speed-networking event designed to connect fans with like-minded people. Whether you’re a comic book connoisseur, movie maven, anime addict, or board game buff, find your tribe!
- Experience the galaxy far far away with a Lightsaber training and dueling experience. There will be limited slots available so be sure to sign up.
- Tasia M.S. is a local freelance illustrator working across gaming, animation and publishing, with expertise in book cover design. She has partnered with international clients like DC Comics and HBO. Meet the mastermind, unlock her creative secrets, and score a signed masterpiece.
- The Entelect Challenge is an annual coding competition where students, professional developers, and enthusiasts develop an intelligent bot to play a game.
