Born in Mpumalanga and raised in Walmer, Gqeberha and Pretoria East, 24-year-old Georgia Neves is a South African actress, comedian, and writer making waves in Los Angeles. Her fearless storytelling, emotionally layered performances, and sharp comedic voice are setting her apart in a fast-moving industry.
Now based in LA, Georgia is building a promising career while holding tightly to her roots. From childhood theatre performances at St George’s to creating award-winning work on international screens, her story is one of grit, creativity and deep cultural pride.
A Childhood Full of Spark
“I played a pig in Noah’s Ark. That definitely sparked my creativity,” Georgia laughs. She recalls a childhood filled with music lessons, school plays, and outings to Bayworld. “That’s my first memory of a museum, and my first time seeing seals and penguins. Museums and aquariums are still very special to me.”
She speaks fondly of friendships formed in Gqeberha. “I was lucky to grow up around kind hearts. I like to think it’s a small town that raised big dreamers.”
And of course, there’s Cubata. “Their ribs? I think about them more often than I’d like to admit.”
From “I Want More” to Making It Happen
Even with happy memories, Georgia says she often felt a bit stuck growing up. “I wanted more for myself, and that longing shaped the stories I now write. So much of my work is about characters searching for more, from life and from themselves.”
Now in LA, she still feels connected to home. “There’s something South Africans carry with them, a warmth, a way of making people feel seen. I always try to lead with that energy.”
Creating Her Own Lane
Georgia’s short film Searching for Grace was born from a moment of uncertainty. “I didn’t know where to begin, so I just wrote through that feeling. That’s what Grace does, too.” The film won the Special Jury Award for Best International Short Film.
She’s now focused on writing the roles she wants to play. “In college, they told us – create the roles you want to see yourself in. That stuck. I’d love to create a comedy series that’s quirky, heartfelt and original.”
Why Improv Feels Like Home
For Georgia, improv is where she feels most alive. “It frees me up and reminds me to listen, to respond in the moment. It’s fun, playful, and makes me a better performer.”
That focus on presence and connection also shapes her work on screen and stage. “You walk into a room and just play. It feels like nothing else matters.”
Lessons from the LA Scene
Georgia doesn’t shy away from the challenges of working in entertainment. “It’s more competitive than I ever imagined. But it’s also filled with people who live and breathe their art, and that’s motivating.”
She’s built her creative community on collaboration. “We support each other. When one of us rises, we try to bring others along. That mindset keeps me grounded.”
Bringing It Back Home
Georgia’s dream is to return to South Africa and share what she’s learned. “I’d love to direct a play, maybe start an improv group. There’s so much talent back home. I want to collaborate, to learn and contribute.”
A Message for Young Creatives
“Do it,” she says. “If it sets your soul on fire, you’ll find a way to build a life around it. Don’t let anyone tell you being an artist isn’t valid. It is.”
She’s aware of the support she’s had, but believes every dream is worth chasing. “Something will come. Keep going.”
What’s Next
“I’m performing more comedy, developing new work, and staying open to whatever role comes next. I just want to keep creating and telling stories that matter.”
