Emeris brings a future-focused approach to tertiary education in Gqeberha

By Lauren Hewitt

What started as The IIE’s Varsity College, IIE MSA, Vega School and the School of Hospitality and Service Management has evolved into Emeris, bringing together names that have become familiar in the tertiary education space.

The name Emeris is derived from the word “Emeritus”, with the institution’s core mission centred around “thinking forward” by teaching future-ready skills, critical thinking, breakthrough innovation and leadership.

More than books and academics

With a holistic approach to teaching and smaller classes, the Gqeberha campus takes its role in connecting students to meaningful future opportunities seriously.

Student wellness facilities, sporting opportunities and career guidance all form part of an environment where students are not simply another number and learning goes beyond books and academics.

Preparing students for the workplace

A key part of this approach is preparing employable students.

Through partnerships with industry, students have opportunities to gain experience in the fields they are studying towards, while also developing practical skills such as communication, collaboration and working as part of a team.

This means students can graduate with more than an academic qualification. They also have practical exposure and familiarity with the industries they hope to enter.

Critical thinking in the age of AI

As AI becomes increasingly embedded in a world where digital literacy is key, Emeris aims to cultivate creative thinkers who have the ability to apply their knowledge, even in uncertain situations.

Rather than simply generating answers through AI, students are encouraged to approach the technology with ethical and critical thinking, questioning the information they receive and understanding how to apply it appropriately.

It is an approach that recognises that being future-ready is not simply about knowing how to use new technology, but knowing how to think alongside it.

A range of study options

With courses ranging from Law to Brand and Marketing Management, and plenty in between, Emeris offers study options across a variety of fields.

Many courses also have an online study option, providing additional flexibility for students who may not be able to follow a traditional campus-based route.

For prospective students in Gqeberha and beyond, there’s something for just about everyone.
