Earlybird Secures USD 1 Million in Equity Funding to Expand High-Quality Early Childhood Development Centers in South Africa

Earlybird Educare@Work, a leading social enterprise in early childhood development (ECD), has raised USD 1 million in equity funding to fuel its expansion. With support from the UBS Optimus Foundation and new investor Klett Group, the company aims to open more ECD centres across South Africa, providing high-quality, affordable education to working families.

Founded in 2017, Earlybird Educare@Work currently operates 10 centers in three provinces, serving 618 children. CEO and founder Megan Blair expressed excitement about the new funding, saying, “We hope to open multiple new centres per year to positively impact more children and families.”

The UBS Optimus Foundation has played a pivotal role in the expansion. Dhun Davar, the Head of Social Finance at the foundation, emphasized the importance of such initiatives, noting that only 1 in 3 South African children has access to quality early learning. “We are proud to support Earlybird as they double their footprint in South Africa, bringing transformative change to marginalized communities,” said Davar.
