The Hollywoodbets Regional League NMB Decider between Major Chiefs FC and Old Grey FC is set to take place on Saturday, 12 April 2025, at the Old Grey Main Field. However, the choice of venue has sparked significant backlash, with fans questioning the fairness of the selection.

The highly anticipated decider will see the winners of Stream A, Old Grey FC, go head-to-head with Stream B champions, Major Chiefs FC. But instead of the focus being on the teams’ performances, much of the conversation has been dominated by concerns over Old Grey FC enjoying home-ground advantage for such a crucial match.

Fans have taken to social media and fan forums to express their frustration, arguing that a neutral venue would have been a fairer option. Suggestions such as Westbourne Oval, Galvandale Stadium, and Wolfson Stadium have been put forward as alternatives that could have ensured a level playing field.

“Why is Old Grey being allowed to play the decider at home? It’s not fair for Major Chiefs FC, and it takes away the excitement of a truly neutral showdown,” one fan commented on a popular sports forum.

Adding to the day’s excitement, a Top 8 match-up will also take place at the same venue earlier in the day. This format sees the top four teams from each stream battle it out in a knockout-style competition. The match schedule is as follows:

  • 08h00: Position 8 vs Position 7
  • 10h00: Position 6 vs Position 5
  • 12h00: Position 4 vs Position 3
  • 14h00: The Decider – Old Grey FC vs Major Chiefs FC

Following the decider, a presentation ceremony will be held to crown the champions.

While the venue controversy continues to generate debate, one thing remains certain—the showdown between Old Grey FC and Major Chiefs FC is shaping up to be a thrilling finale to the Hollywoodbets Regional League. Whether home-ground advantage plays a role or not, fans can expect a high-intensity battle between two of the league’s best teams.
