The City of Cape Town has officially launched the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour, marking a historic first for South Africa. The global tournament, renowned for showcasing the world’s best beach volleyball talent, is being hosted locally for the very first time.
The launch event took place at the scenic Grand Afri Café and Beach, bringing together dignitaries, sponsors, athletes, media, and influencers all united by a shared goal: to grow volleyball in Africa.
From 22 to 26 October 2025, Camps Bay Beach will transform into a world-class sporting arena as 96 athletes from 48 countries compete for international glory. The five-day event promises top-tier volleyball action, a buzzing beach festival vibe, and a celebration of sport, culture, and community.
This year’s Cape Town, Camps Bay edition also marks the start of a five-year hosting partnership, cementing Cape Town’s reputation as one of the world’s most iconic sporting destinations.
At the launch, Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Ricardo Mackenzie, highlighted the importance of nurturing talent from a young age:
“As the Western Cape Government, we are proud to support this event and the investment in volleyball, especially in schools. Our school sport strategy, set to launch soon, will be the first of its kind in South Africa. Great athletes don’t just appear on the beach; they begin in classrooms and school fields.”
Anna K. Marais, Founder and CEO of The Connected Group, a strategic partner of the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour, echoed the sentiment, noting the powerful role sport plays in driving unity and growth:
“Sport unites communities and changes lives. South Africa continues to prove what’s possible with limited resources. Imagine what could be achieved with greater investment in talent, infrastructure, and the business of sport.”
As the countdown to the first serve begins, all eyes are on Cape Town, where world-class sport meets local spirit, and the sand becomes a stage for global excellence.
