The 2025 Cape Epic isn’t just breaking records—it’s breaking barriers in sustainability. Thanks to Aquasky, South Africa’s leader in eco-friendly hydration, the race will eliminate single-use plastics and redefine how sports events tackle environmental challenges.
Hydration stations along the route will replace plastic bottles with chilled still and sparkling water on tap, paired with reusable cups that will be sanitized and reused throughout the event. This innovation alone is set to save up to 60,000 plastic bottles, making a significant impact on reducing event waste and promoting greener practices.
Aquasky’s Atmospheric Water Generating (AWG) technology, which extracts water directly from the air, will conserve precious water resources—a critical advantage in South Africa’s drought-prone regions. By using this groundbreaking system, the Cape Epic ensures that sustainability is more than a buzzword—it’s a practical solution to real-world challenges.
“Partnering with the Cape Epic lets us showcase how sustainability and innovation go hand in hand,” says Brendan Williamson, Managing Director at Aquasky. “It’s about setting an example for what’s possible in major events.”
Beyond the environmental wins, this partnership is creating jobs within local communities. From managing hydration stations to handling reusable cup logistics, the initiative not only supports sustainability but also boosts economic opportunities in the Western Cape.
The Cape Epic continues to shine as a global leader in eco-conscious practices. By teaming up with Aquasky, the event is proving that big events can leave a smaller footprint while inspiring others to follow suit. This year, it’s not just about the ride—it’s about the responsibility.
