BOOKS | A Joyful Tapestry: Clare Pooley’s ‘How to Age Disgracefully

Clare Pooley’s ‘How to Age Disgracefully’ captivates from start to finish. 041Books columnist  LAUREN HEWITT praises Pooley’s skill in weaving a heartwarming tale of identity, community, and growth.

The intro jumps right into the almost end without revealing any spoilers. Then backtracks to how everyone met.

While im not quite in Lydia’s age bracket (almost-ish), her story hit hard. Losing your identity is such a real topic! Becoming a wife and mom can be so challenging.

Ruby is living the life I want! Imagine being a yarn bomber( yarnsy!). I loved her and her naughty sense of humour with all the ‘rude bits’, she was brilliant

The multiple POVs with stories intertwining were fantastic, and I felt I got to know each of the storytellers really well.

I love how they all come together for a common goal.

The way the characters grow, change, and step out of their comfort zones to come to the aid of another is heartwarming.

None seemed to have family, so this community centre became like a home and family.

I picked it because hearing the author talk about this book at a virtual book release, and her excitement and passion for it convinced me I had to read it. And I’m so glad I did. This is one of my top reads for the year.
