Boast Pirates Seek Redemption Against Red Lions After Drop in Form

After a flying start to the NEBFA Premier League season, Boast Pirates FC have slipped from 4th to 6th on the log, raising questions ahead of a crucial weekend clash with Red Lions FC. Head Coach Sibusiso Ngetu has spoken candidly about the team’s recent dip in form and what it will take to turn things around.

Momentum Lost After Easter Break

According to Ngetu, the turning point came during the Easter break, which he says broke the teamโ€™s stride and introduced a mix of fatigue and injuries.

โ€œWe finished the first round in good form, but the break killed our rhythm,โ€ said Ngetu. โ€œThere was a lot happeningโ€”injuries, fatigueโ€”and when we came back, the momentum wasnโ€™t there. But that’s no excuse. Look at City Defendersโ€”they played a lot of games and maintained their form.โ€

More Mental than Matchups

Pressed on whether stronger opposition is to blame, Ngetu pushed back, saying the issue lies more with the Pirates’ attitude than external pressure.

โ€œI wouldnโ€™t say it’s strong competition. Every game is different from the last. Weโ€™ve lacked the attitude we had at the start of the season. At this stage, everyone is fighting to win. It’s about hard work, big characters, and a positive mindset.โ€

Red Lions Rematch: Lessons Learned

Boast Pirates and Red Lions last met in a tightly contested 1-1 drawโ€”a match Ngetu feels they should have won.

โ€œWe scored first but let them back in because of a lack of concentration and missed chances,โ€ he explained. โ€œWeโ€™ve been working hard in training this week, especially on focus and finishingโ€”two things weโ€™ve struggled with.โ€

Eyes Still on Top 5

Despite the recent setback, the coach remains confident the Pirates can climb back up.

โ€œTop 5 is our target. Weโ€™re building. After where we finished last season, we must do better,โ€ Ngetu said. โ€œWe must finish what we started. No one will do it for us. Consistency, organization, and beliefโ€”thatโ€™s how weโ€™ll reach our goal.โ€
