Bimonthly Fashion Event Launches In The Bay

ELEANOR DOUGLAS-MEYERS:

NELSON Mandela Bay fashion lovers are in for a treat with  Sunday Instyle, a new bimonthly fashion event starting this July.

July 15 will see fashion lovers come together dressed to the nines for a runway show, a style exhibition and gin tasting at Black Impala at 3 pm.

Sundae Instyle is the brainchild of Sylvester Samora Williams, owner and Managing director of Azuri Events, and is run through the newly launched The Business of Fashion EC organization.

According to Williams, the events intend to be a platform for the local fashion community to showcase their talents.

“We need to start to celebrate and promote our own fabulous designers,” says Williams, who believes that the design talent in the bay should be celebrated locally.

Nelson Mandela Bay is the birthplace of big-name designers such as Thabo Makhetha and  Laduma Ngxokolo while Mandela University has one of the most respected fashion and textile design courses in the country.

With so many fashion designers living, studying and working in the city it goes without saying that the city has a lot to “show and tell”.

“Gqeberha needs a fashion and style reawakening,” says Williams who dreams of creating a fashion council for the province.

Williams who is intimately involved in the fashion industry through his business  Samora Williams Image Architect & Makeup Artistry has earmarked the first brands to be showcased as Truly Karin, House of Ozzie, Just Designs, Ayanda Soxuza and Thembani Selani.

The Business of Fashion EC has partnered with local businesses Black Impala, Kitibella, and Bombay Sapphire to make the vision of a bimonthly fashion showcase a reality.

Models, makeup artists and hair stylists for the events are all being sourced locally to emphasize the focus on the local fashion industry.

“We want to create a platform for fashion designers and creatives in and around  Gqeberha. To promote, uplift and celebrate creatives and also create a Fashion Identity,” he said.

The first event will take place on July 15 with tickets selling at R60 each.
