Bid with Heart: Aurora’s Silent Auction Returns to Raise Funds and Hope

If you love vintage treasures and want to support a truly meaningful cause, clear your calendar from 9 to 16 July — the Aurora Special Care Centre Silent Auction is officially on!

Held at Aurora’s warm and welcoming facility in Walmer Downs, this annual event is more than just a fundraiser — it’s a community celebration of generosity, nostalgia, and purpose. Running Monday to Friday from 09h00 to 15h00, the Silent Auction gives locals a chance to browse a curated collection of vintage and pre-loved items, all donated in support of Aurora’s ongoing work with individuals living with intellectual and physical disabilities.

Expect a treasure trove of:

Elegant glassware and porcelain

Vintage ornaments and home décor

Pre-loved furniture pieces with soul

Children’s toys and collectibles

Original artworks and paintings

Timeless costume and fine jewellery

The process is simple: find something you love, write down your bid on the sheet provided, and drop it into the secure bidding box. When the auction closes, the highest bid wins — and the lucky winners will be notified personally.

The Heart Behind the Hammer

Aurora Special Care Centre has served the Nelson Mandela Bay community for over 45 years, offering specialised residential and day care to children and adults with profound disabilities. The Centre provides a wide range of services including:

24/7 residential support

Occupational and physical therapy

Stimulation and skills-development programmes

Educational support

Family guidance and respite care

Aurora’s work is not just vital — it’s life-changing. For many families, it offers a lifeline of hope and expert care in a world that can often feel isolating and overwhelming. However, this level of care comes at a significant cost.

As a non-profit organisation, Aurora relies heavily on donations and community-driven events like this Silent Auction to continue their services and keep the Centre running. Every bid placed during the auction goes directly toward covering daily operational costs, therapy sessions, equipment, and staffing — helping ensure that residents receive the attention, dignity, and love they deserve.
