Gqeberha, South Africa – The Gqeberha creative economy has never been in better shape
and this is clear with the upcoming premiere of iLobola, which is a short film that has been
created and produced by local broadcasting and film production company BhayiPolar
Visions.
The production company which is founded by Aphiwe Skosana and Tshifhiwa Maingo who are
both seasoned film producers whose past work has included working on the Gqeberha: The
Empire set and being a part of the technical production team of Grease
The film is the first indie films to be released by the production company. The project also
marks as a collaboration between the directors of the production company and film director
Mwango Muntemba Kondolo who serves as the director of photography of the film. He is also
known for directing visuals for Cassper Nyovest and Nasty C’s African Throne Tour .
The romance behind the story
The indie short film will follow the romantic journey of Ntombikayise and Xhanti who have a
fateful meeting at the river. The celebration of the Amaxhosa culture within the context of a
love story is one of the messages of the film.
The characters will be portrayed by Somikhazi Makhaluza and Mfuneko Ngumbela. The film
also stars a variety of local actors in secondary roles.
When will the film be premiered
The film will be launched through a premiere which will be held at One Room on 2 November.
The venue is renowned for providing a platform for local artists and musicians. It has been an
integral part of the Gqeberha art scene.
