Beer Shack Humewood Review: Big Portions, Drafts & Beach Cabana Vibes

We ended up at Beer Shack the other day, and honestly, it’s hard not to like the place. In my work life, it’s already a go-to, mostly because of their R29 breakfast. Quick, decent, and cheap enough that you don’t feel guilty grabbing it more than once a week.

This time, though, we sat down for a proper meal. I went for pasta, chicken and bacon, and as a home chef, I’m normally a nightmare about pasta. Too creamy, too bland, too something. But this one? Very, very good. Good enough that I cleaned the whole (massive) bowl. That doesn’t happen often.

My wife went for the platter of sliders. Except these “sliders” were basically full-on burgers. Honestly, I’ve seen kids’ meals smaller. She loved it, and I stole a bite, purely for research, of course.

The beer situation is where things get fun. All drafts are R37 as part of their beer special, which is dangerously easy on the wallet. I had the John Ale, citrusy and crisp, while she tackled one of their jam jar cocktails. And when I say jam jar, I mean jam jar, the kind you need two hands to lift.

Décor-wise, I was told that they have a beach cabana aesthetic, and I can see it. Think casual seaside shack, light and airy, the kind of place where you half-expect someone to serve you a piña colada with a paper umbrella. It just works.

Mondays sweeten the deal even more with their burger-and-beer special. Honestly, not the worst way to start your week.

Beer Shack nails it: good food, generous portions, nice people, and a vibe that makes you want to stay longer than you planned.
