Summer is calling, and if there’s one thing we love almost as much as sunshine, it’s skin that looks and feels beautifully moisturised.
041Online recently attended a Sol de Janeiro-inspired garden party at Vovo Telo, where tropical fragrances, indulgent body care and all things summer set the mood.
And while the delicious scents certainly had our attention, the afternoon inspired us to think about something equally important: keeping our skin hydrated and healthy through Gqeberha’s sunny, sometimes windy summer days.
Here are six simple tips worth saving.
1. Moisturise While Your Skin Is Damp
The best time to apply body cream is just after showering, while your skin is still slightly damp. This helps reduce moisture loss and keeps skin feeling softer.
Summer tip: Pat dry, then moisturise.
2. Look for Hydrating Ingredients
Glycerin and hyaluronic acid help attract water, while ingredients such as shea butter help soften skin and reduce moisture loss.
Summer tip: Check the ingredients, not just the fragrance.
3. Turn Down the Shower Temperature
Very hot showers can leave skin feeling dry and tight. Choose lukewarm water and follow with a nourishing body lotion.
Summer tip: Less heat, more moisture.
4. Exfoliate Gently
A little exfoliation can help remove dead skin cells, but overdoing it can cause irritation. Keep it gentle and always moisturise afterwards.
Summer tip: Smooth skin doesn’t require aggressive scrubbing.
5. Don’t Forget Your SPF
Beautifully scented body creams are lovely, but they don’t replace sunscreen. Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher and reapply regularly when outdoors.
Summer tip: Moisturise for softness. SPF for protection.
6. Layer Your Body Care
Take a little inspiration from Sol de Janeiro’s indulgent approach to body care. Start with a gentle cleanser, follow with a moisturising cream and finish with your favourite body mist if your skin tolerates fragrance.
Summer tip: Cleanse, moisturise, mist.
Your Summer Skin Checklist

Our afternoon at Vovo Telo was a lovely reminder that summer beauty doesn’t need to be complicated.
A little consistency, a good moisturiser and proper sun protection go a long way.
And if you happen to smell like a tropical holiday while doing it? Even better.
