As the 2025 Sasol League season approaches, Bay Stars FC Ladies are setting their sights on another competitive campaign. With a blend of returning talent and fresh signings, the team is eager to build on last season’s impressive third-place finish—despite facing a few hurdles along the way.
Pre-Season Challenges and Progress
Preparation is in full swing, but like many community clubs, Bay Stars FC is no stranger to challenges. The biggest concern? Transport. For the past two seasons, the club has relied on its own bus to travel to matches, but mechanical issues have sidelined their vehicle this year. With no sponsorship to offset the costs, the team faces uncertainty as the bus remains in the workshop.
Still, spirits remain high. “We’re getting there,” said a team representative. “The players are excited to be back in training and are really looking forward to the season ahead.”
Fitness, Strategy, and New Signings
Pre-season training has focused on fitness and integrating new players into the team’s system. “We’re introducing them to our style of play, and the coach is making sure he has the right combinations,” the representative explained.
Among the latest recruits are Aluta, Sixolisile, and Lisa, who join from Getto Stars in Walmer. However, the team has also bid farewell to two standout players who have secured scholarships to the University of Johannesburg (UJ). Their departure is bittersweet, but it’s a testament to their talent—UJ has already requested their clearances.
Eyes on the Prize
Bay Stars FC is clear about its ambitions. “Our goal remains the same every season—to improve our position from the previous year,” said the representative. With a steady climb from fifth to third place over the past two seasons, the team is eager to make an even bigger statement in 2025. “If that means topping our stream, then so be it!” they added with a smile.
Tough Competition and Early Fixtures
The team is well aware of the tough competition ahead. Reigning champions Sophakama Ladies FC and second-placed Nav Galaxy Ladies FC are among the biggest hurdles. “They always give us a tough time,” admitted the representative.
One of Bay Stars FC’s early tests will be an away fixture against Volcano Ladies FC on April 5. “Whenever we face Volcano, there are always plenty of goals,” the representative said. “We know they have speedy young players, but we’ll be ready.”
Community Support: The Team’s Driving Force
Rooted in the heart of Gqeberha, Bay Stars FC thrives on the support of its local fans. “Community backing is crucial, especially from the players’ parents, so they can see how talented these girls are,” said the representative. “It motivates the team and pushes them to do more.”
To keep supporters engaged, the club actively updates its social media platforms with match details and team news.
A Season of Determination
Despite the obstacles, Bay Stars FC Ladies are embracing the new season with optimism and resilience. With a strong squad, unwavering community support, and a hunger for success, the team is ready to make waves in the 2025 Sasol League. If they can overcome their transport setbacks and continue building on last season’s progress, they could be on track for their best finish yet.
