A Nelson Mandela Bay organisation dedicated to supporting children and adults with disabilities has been selected as the beneficiary of this year’s Algoa Cares Charity Golf Day.
The Aurora Special Care Centre will receive funds raised during the event, which is hosted by Algoa FM in partnership with Ronnie’s Motors Commercial and takes place at the Port Elizabeth Golf Club on Thursday, 27 August 2026.
Funds raised on the day will go towards the purchase of a standing frame or tilt table, an important piece of equipment used in therapy programmes for people who are unable to stand independently.
“We desperately need a standing frame as part of our therapy programme at our centre,” said Nicky Von Hoffman of Aurora Special Care Centre.
“It is essential for adults and children who are unable to stand as it assists with building bone density, preventing hip problems, stretching muscles and bowel emptying.
“It is also one of the ideal positions for patients while doing activities with clients as they are already optimally positioned, with their arms and hands free to do exercises.”
Algoa FM managing director Alfie Jay said the selection process was particularly difficult due to the high standard of applications received.
“Congratulations to Aurora for being selected from a very strong selection of entries,” said Jay.
“There is so much inspiring work being done to support and uplift the residents of Nelson Mandela Bay that it is always difficult selecting a beneficiary.
“Aurora was chosen because of the way they care for children and adults with disabilities in the centre.”
This year’s charity golf day will also have a celebratory theme, with participants encouraged to embrace the spirit of the 1980s as Algoa FM marks 40 years of broadcasting.
The popular annual event brings together local businesses, golfers and community members to raise funds for worthy causes while enjoying a day on the course.
Businesses and individuals interested in supporting the event can book a fourball, sponsor a hole or donate prizes.
