Algoa FM has launched a brand-new seven-part podcast series on cancer, forming part of the awareness drive for this year’s Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer, presented by Isuzu Motors South Africa.
Hosted by Carol-Anne Kelleher, the series unpacks the many challenges faced by people living with cancer – as well as their families, friends, colleagues, and support networks.
Algoa FM managing director Alfie Jay says the podcast is designed to educate and connect people with reliable information and resources.
“Our objective is to connect anyone affected by cancer with authoritative information and sources of support. Cancer can be beaten when we fight it together,” he says.
What to expect from the podcast
The seven episodes will drop weekly from Wednesday, September 3, on the Algoa FM website, leading up to the 2025 Big Walk for Cancer on Saturday, October 25, taking place across Gqeberha, East London and George.
This year’s walk will raise funds for Siyavuka for Kids, Reach for Recovery, and Project Flamingo.
Here’s a look at the line-up:
- Episode 1: The different types of cancer, risk factors, early detection and screening.
- Episode 2: Lifestyle choices, prevention, and how to take control after diagnosis.
- Episode 3: Navigating the emotional and physical toll, the value of support systems, and available resources.
- Episode 4: Breakthroughs in cancer treatment and ongoing research.
- Episode 5: Inspirational survivor stories that offer hope.
- Episode 6: The work of Siyavuka for Kids, Project Flamingo and Reach for Recovery in supporting patients.

Jay adds that the podcasts will remain available year-round and will continue to grow as part of future Big Walk campaigns.
