A Wild Weekend Awaits: SPAR Kirkwood Wildsfees Returns with Bigger WOW Tent and Dinosaur Selfies

Ready for a wild time? The SPAR Kirkwood Wildsfees is back from 27–29 June, and this year’s Walk on the Wildside (WOW) marquee is promising more thrills, more dinosaurs, and a whole lot of green fun for the whole family.

From the moment you arrive, you’ll be greeted by a towering Tree of Life made from recycled cardboard and household waste—because going wild doesn’t mean forgetting Mother Nature. Visitors can write their personal pledges to protect the environment and add them to the growing tree of eco-hope.

But that’s just the start.

Dino-mite adventures are back as the festival’s favourite prehistoric mascots stomp into Sundays River Valley once again. Watch your step—there’ll be warning signs! Kids (and let’s be honest, adults too) can dig for fossils, enjoy a VR adventure, and grab a selfie with everyone’s favourite dino, Rexie.

Inside the WOW tent, you’ll also find 19 tourism destinations under one roof. Whether you’re planning a chilled weekend getaway or an adrenaline-filled family break, Sarah Baartman District Tourism, Addo Tourism, and ECPTA will help you map your next local escape.

Local legend Ron Mackenzie will share stories and secrets from South Africa’s most charming small towns—think hidden gems and off-the-beaten-path stops worth discovering.

And then there’s the buzz. Literally. Pro beekeeper Lohan Geel will be there with live demos, bee facts, and delicious honey tastings—each flavour a reflection of the flowers his bees have visited. Sweet, right?

Creepy crawlies more your thing? Conservationist Mark Marshall of Sandula Conservation will be talking all things snakes, spiders, and tortoises, while kids can get lost in the magic of daily puppet shows—each one with a conservation twist, thanks to the Waste Trade Company.

Feeling bold? Get your face painted green and go wild—because the WOW marquee is all about celebrating our natural world in weird, wonderful ways.
