Sophisticate Models, one of South Africa’s most prestigious modelling schools, marked a significant milestone at its annual Top Model Gala on Saturday, November 2. The glamorous event took place at the historic Feather Market Centre in Gqeberha, drawing an impressive audience of over 400 attendees. This year’s landmark 35th gala showcased the extraordinary talent of 98 finalists who have trained rigorously over the past three months in Photographic Modeling and Runway Prowess.
The 2024 Top Model Event placed a spotlight on two critical judging elements: Photographic Modeling and Runway Prowess. An esteemed panel of judges, comprising seasoned professionals—many of whom are former titleholders and have extensive experience in the fashion industry—conducted a thorough evaluation of each finalist’s abilities.
This year’s judging panel featured notable figures, including former titleholders Clarise Stander, Mirisa Naude, and international model Delon le Roux, who assessed each contestant’s photographic skills. They were joined by industry veterans such as Kobie Potgieter, a businesswoman and real estate mogul from RE/MAX; Clarise Wallace, a former titleholder and businesswoman; Amanda Notyena, a celebrated bridal fashion designer; and Hein Schmidt of Heinz in Style. Together, they ensured a comprehensive and fair assessment of the finalists’ talent and dedication.
The evening’s success was underpinned by the generous support of Sophisticate Models’ 2024 Platinum Sponsors, including Chateau Del Rei as the official celebration partner, Food Lover’s Market, RE/MAX Independent Properties, Heinz in Style, Edge Fitness Clubs, CC Timbers, Greyvensteins Incorporated, and Walmer Park Shopping Centre.
In a heartfelt address, Sophisticate Models’ owner and principal, Gail Brown, expressed her gratitude: “It has been an incredible journey for 36 years, and each new season brings fresh talent and enthusiasm. I am deeply grateful to my exceptional team, the teachers, the committee members, and the parents who help make events like this possible.”
Liezel Steenkamp of Prodesign Photographers captured the evening’s unforgettable moments, creating stunning images that brought each finalist’s performance to life and will be cherished by attendees and finalists alike.
