Families looking for something a little different to do together this August can swap the usual weekend outing for clues, challenges and a wildlife adventure.
The Forever Rhino Rally Junior Amazing Adventure Race takes place at African Dawn Bird and Wildlife Sanctuary in Thornhill on Saturday, 29 August 2026, offering children and their parents a family-friendly take on the Amazing Race concept.
Running from 10am to 4pm, the event will see teams make their way through the sanctuary, following clues and completing a series of activities before receiving directions to their next challenge.
An Amazing Race for the whole family
Designed as a smaller-scale alternative for families with younger adventurers, the scavenger hunt-style event combines problem-solving and teamwork with an opportunity to explore and learn more about the wildlife sanctuary.
Families can enter teams of three to five people, with children aged five and older able to participate. At least one parent or adult should form part of each team.
Rather than simply racing from one point to another, each clue will lead teams to a new task that must be completed before they can move on.
The idea is to give parents and children something they can genuinely do together while experiencing the sanctuary in a fun and interactive way.
There will also be prizes up for grabs, while food trucks and vendors will be available for families wanting to make a full day of the experience.

The junior event forms part of the broader Forever Rhino Rally activities taking place in Nelson Mandela Bay.
