Miss South Africa Ushers in a New Era – With Eastern Cape Representation in the Spotlight

The Miss South Africa Organisation has officially entered a bold new chapter, one defined by youth empowerment, social impact, and visionary leadership. For fans in Nelson Mandela Bay and across the Eastern Cape, there’s even more reason to celebrate, with East London’s own Qhawekazi Mazaleni named among the 2025 finalists.

Leadership for a New Era

Guiding this new direction are two powerhouse women: former Miss South Africa and business leader Basetsana Kumalo, alongside financial services executive Peggy Sue Khumalo. As newly appointed Co-Chairs of the organisation, they bring unmatched experience and vision, and will personally mentor the finalists in their journey towards becoming leaders and ambassadors.

“Miss South Africa still plays a critical role in empowering women to use their voice, rise, and become leaders who will create jobs and hold high office in the c-suite,” says Basetsana Kumalo.

Peggy Sue Khumalo adds:

“What we need now is more activists in our country that will champion social change and sustainability.”

Empower Youth Africa (EYA)

At the heart of the new era is Empower Youth Africa (EYA) – a movement designed to channel the confidence and influence of Miss SA finalists into tangible solutions for youth unemployment, positive lifestyle choices, and civic engagement across the continent.

A Shared Vision Among Finalists

The 2025 finalists, including Qhawekazi Mazaleni from Gonubie, have already begun shaping their personal mission statements through intensive workshops with leaders in business, sport, and social change. The focus has shifted from competition to collaboration, with each finalist aligning around the EYA mission.

Honouring Personal Journeys

The organisation also confirmed that one finalist has voluntarily withdrawn, a decision that was respected as part of the movement’s commitment to authenticity and purpose. No replacement will be appointed.

The Grand Finale Awaits

The Miss South Africa 2025 Grand Finale takes place on Saturday, 25 October 2025 at the SunBet Arena. Public voting is already open via the Miss SA App, closing on 24 October at 6pm.

As this new era takes shape, the spotlight isn’t just on the crown – but on the impact these young women will have across South Africa and the continent.
