Kaleidoscope Festival 2025 – Three Days of Music, Food and Karoo MagicPrince Albert

This August, the heart of the Karoo will come alive with music, the aromas of fine food and wine, and the joy of shared community celebration. The Kaleidoscope Festival 2025 is set to transform Prince Albert into a hub of world-class performances and culinary experiences over three unforgettable days.

From August 22 to August 24, the festival will present an exceptional programme celebrating South African musicians and composers. Expect a mix of new commissions and world premieres, with concerts in some of Prince Albert’s most iconic venues. Visitors can enjoy classical and chamber music alongside food and wine inspired by the Karoo’s heritage, creating an immersive cultural experience.

Programme highlights

On Friday, 22 August, the PACT Youth Centre will host the ARCO Youth Orchestras, featuring young musicians from local schools playing an enchanting programme of South African and children’s music. Guests can support the performers while enjoying coffee and crumpets from the Hope Warriors Coffee Shop. That evening, “Songs from Near and Far” at The Showroom will feature mezzo soprano Minette du Toit-Pearce, violist Louise Lansdown, and pianist Hendrik Hofmeyr. Before the performance, visitors can enjoy specialty pizzas and wine at The Langhuis, located opposite the venue.

On Saturday, 23 August, the day begins with “Round the World with Four Violas” at Eerste Water on the Swartberg Pass, accompanied by breakfast from The Lazy Lizard. At midday, “Brass Tastic” at The Yellow House will offer an uplifting concert followed by their signature wood-fired pizzas and a selection of wines or craft beer. In the late afternoon, Gay’s Guernsey Dairy will host the African String Quartet, paired with a cheeseboard and wine, before the evening’s “Breakfast in Cape Town, Lunch in New York, Dinner in Prince Albert” concert at the Swartberg Hotel. The hotel will offer a full Karoo-inspired three-course dinner before the performance.

On Sunday, 24 August, Garfield’s Place will present “Long Walk to Freedom”, a concert remembering the struggle and inspired by South African history, followed by a Mandela-inspired feast at Jeremy’s restaurant next door.

Throughout the festival, local favourites such as The Lazy Lizard, EAT at Yellow House, Gay’s Dairy, The Langhuis, and Jeremy’s will offer menus designed to complement the music, making each performance a feast for the senses.

Community impact

Kaleidoscope’s partnerships with Wesgro and the Prince Albert Community Trust (PACT) ensure that the event has a lasting positive impact. Proceeds and support help fund the ARCO Project, which provides free string instrument tuition to 80 local children aged 4 to 13. The festival bridges the gap between local talent and professional musicians, creating opportunities for education, performance, and cultural exchange.
