The Red Lions FC Under-18 side has added yet another trophy to their growing cabinet, after clinching the prestigious NEBFA Engen Under-18 Tournament title this past weekend.
This marks their second cup victory of the year, following their earlier success at the Easter Tournament held during the April long weekend — further proof that this young squad from New Brighton is building something special.
Their latest triumph means the Red Lions U18S will now represent New Brighton at the upcoming NMBFA Engen Regional Play-Offs, scheduled for Saturday, 14 June 2025. The official draw will take place on Tuesday, 10 June, at the NMBFA office.
“We’re Going as Red Lions, and That’s That”
Speaking after the final whistle, team captain Mpilontle ‘Chippa’ Qwazi made it clear: the squad isn’t looking for reinforcements.
“We won’t call any player from any other under-18 club to help us,” said Qwazi.
“We are fit enough, and we will go and compete at the NMBFA Engen Regional Play-Offs as Red Lions FC Under-18 players.”
A bold statement – but one that reflects the unity and confidence within the camp. No borrowed players. No shortcuts. Just a tightly-knit team that’s already proved it can go all the way.
Form, Focus, and Forward Momentum
With two titles in two months, Red Lions U18S are building serious momentum. Their form, team chemistry, and collective focus have been standout, making them clear contenders as they now prepare to face the best in the region.
And with the New Brighton community behind them, the Lions won’t be short on motivation.
From Easter champions to NEBFA title-holders — and now heading into the play-offs with their heads held high — Red Lions FC Under-18s are not just participating. They’re here to win.
