5 Ways To Keep Your Skin Moisturized This Winter

As temperatures drop, our skin requires extra care to combat the harsh effects of winter 041Beauty columnist Lwando Joko Sipeliti shares some tips to keep your skin looking good through the colder months.

Dry air and cold winds can leave our skin feeling dry and dull. To maintain that healthy, radiant complexion throughout the colder months, it’s essential we adjust our skincare routine. We all have different skin types and textures and it’s important to treat your skin according to its needs. Here are five essential winter moisturizing beauty tips to keep your skin glowing and hydrated.

Hydrate from within:

Make sure to hydrate from within by drinking plenty of liquids and water. Water helps with maintaining hydration in your body which helps keep your skin hydrated and supple.

Gentle cleanser:

Choose a gentle, moisturizing cleanser that won’t strip your skin of its natural oils. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid or glycerin to help retain moisture, eg. CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser or Nivea Gentle Cleanser.

Start incorporating Hyaluronic Acid:

Hyaluronic acid is a substance found in our eyes, joints and skin and it aids in the retention of moisture in our skin. Using hyaluronic acid and glycerin-based serums in your skincare routine can help with retaining glowy and hydrated-looking skin, eg. The Ordinary Serum.

Layer your moisturizers:

During winter, consider layering your moisturizers for added hydration. Start with a light water-based moisturizer, then use a richer sunscreen to lock in the moisture. My personal favourites are the Gentle Magic skincare cream, followed by the Clicks SPF50 Face sunscreen.

Exfoliate regularly:

Regular exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells, allowing the moisturizer to absorb deeper into the skin. Choose a gentle exfoliator and use it 2-3 times a week for smoother, brighter skin, eg. Garnier Pure Active 3-in-1 facial scrub or African extract rooibos facial scrub.

By following these five essential winter moisturizing beauty tips, you can ensure your skin stays hydrated, glowing and healthy throughout the colder months. Remember to listen to your skin’s needs and adjust your skincare routine accordingly. For those with dry skin, layer up on moisturising to ensure that your skin is continuously hydrated and for oily skin concerns, remember that winter strips away the natural oils and this would be the best time to change up to a more moisturizing-based product.

With the right care and attention, you can enjoy beautiful, glowing skin all winter long.
