021: Running With The Running Late Club

CAPE Town is a fitness playground, just ask anyone popping by for a visit. Whether it be 5 am or late in the evening, Capetonians are out and about, smartwatch at the ready. Who could blame them though? With access to beaches with breathtaking views, it is hard not to want to enjoy them.

Whether you choose to run along the beach or venture along the trails on the mountain, Cape Town has the trail for you. However running alone is not always fun, being stuck alone with your thoughts for 5km can be one daunting experience, trust me, I know.

So what to do? Well, The Running Late Club has the perfect solution for you.

A community of everyday athletes and beginner runners, the Running Late Club (sponsored by Under Armour) caters to those looking to get into running while socializing with a crew that has a whole vibe. The varying degrees of fitness within the group allows everyone to enjoy the run at a pace that they are most comfortable with while being motivated along the entire route.

I was lucky enough to participate in one of their races that took place at Makers Landing at the V & A Waterfront. As we all gathered for our run, we were met with a quick warm-up routine and then the race was on.

Running through the pathways of the V &A Waterfront, the crowd was electric as we ran along the Silo section and cut across the bridge that overlooks the ocean, my chest burning but my legs kept going. I managed to push myself and ran one of my best races to date.

On our return, we were able to socialize and hydrate with ice-cold PURA water, a 3km run well deserved.

If you are looking for a community of people to motivate you, or even just a good starting point to get yourself running, the Running Late Club is just for you…

Remember, rather late than never.
