Takeaways from Meta’s Debut South African Creator Event

041Online was invited to attend Meta’s debut Creator Braai in South Africa, an exciting milestone for local content creators. Representing 041Online, 011Focus, writer NOMNDENI MOTHA experienced the full Meta Creator Braai 2025 firsthand.

Held yesterday, at the beautiful Level Three in Sandton, the event brought together more than 200 creators, filling the space with positive energy, bold fashion, and infectious excitement.

This event was a bold expression of Meta’s commitment to the South African creator economy, acknowledging its impact. Their goal was to equip content creators with the skills, tools, and support they need in order to thrive on all Meta platforms.

Meta brought some of their big names including Moon Baz, Meta’s Director of Global Partnerships for Africa, the Middle East & Turkey; Kezia Anim-Addo, Meta’s Communications Director for the same region; and Rof Maneta, Meta’s Strategic Partner Manager.

There were insightful presentations on Meta AI, Instagram, Threads, Facebook, and the new Edits. Growing creators learnt how algorithms work for each of the Meta platforms, how to grow on the platforms, best practises to follow, practises to avoid, and what monetization options are available on Meta.

These were particularly helpful because of how much misinformation and contradictory opinions the internet is flooded with when it comes to social media growth. Getting verified information from Meta themselves gives creators a real shot at making it on social media.

Here are 5 things we learnt at the Meta Creator Braai 2025:

  • On Instagram, reels are sent out to new audiences, photos and carousels are sent out to your community. So? Post reels to grow your account.
  • To monetise your Facebook account using Stars, teach your audience how Stars work, give them incentives and always acknowledge Stars that you receive.
  • Post daily to grow your account on Threads. Posts that combine text with a visual perform better.
  • You can use the in-app Meta AI tool to generate content ideas, plan your posts, and get tips to improve your content.
  • Using the new Meta editing app Edits while it’s still new can help your content with reach.

Some creators also got the opportunity to take the stage. Mpho Mudau was interviewed in a fireside chat where she discussed the role of Meta AI in her content creation process. She encouraged all creators to use the tool, saying “Meta AI helps you overcome creative blocks”.

The learning did not end on stage, the presenters were available for one-on-one sessions that allowed creators to ask further questions and get personalised feedback on their Meta pages.

The Meta Creator Braai also featured activations from big brands including L’Oréal and Garnier, where creators could play games and win prizes. And of course, there was plenty of good food and drinks — it was a braai after all.
