I was so fortunate to have secured my tickets for Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle (Part 1: Akaza Returns). Small lie, I didn’t fight for tickets since we got them literally as it was announced (don’t judge me!).
Dressed in my Giyu haori and hanafuda earrings, I was super amped to watch the anime that’s been breaking hearts and box office records after its initial Japan release on 18 July 2025. Needless to say, not a single spoiler was shared online after the staggered international release, so I could watch it completely spoiler free.
The movie picks up right after the Hashira Training Arc (Season 4), with Muzan Kibutsuji dragging the Demon Slayer Corps into his creepy, dimension shifting fortress known as the Infinity Castle.
Inside, the Demon Slayers are scattered. The castle is run by the demon Nakime, whose powers make it a labyrinth where corridors twist, gravity shifts, and levels seem endless.
The Three Main Showdowns
Shinobu Kocho vs Upper Rank 2 Doma
The long awaited revenge arc.
Zenitsu vs Upper Rank 6 Kaigaku
A possible redemption arc.
Tanjiro and Giyu Tomioka vs Upper Rank 3 Akaza
The main battle, and yes, they made me relive that Rengoku moment from Mugen Train all over again.
Meanwhile, the other Hashira and supporting Corps members are trying to map the Infinity Castle via Kasugai crows, find Muzan, avoid being overwhelmed by lower demons, and basically just trying to stay alive at this point.
Visuals and Animation
Ufotable does not disappoint.
The Infinity Castle itself is beautifully horrifying, with architecture that defies logic, gloomy yet detailed demon designs, and dynamic fight scenes filled with flowing motion. Lighting, fire, water, and thunder effects are all used to maximum impact. Ufotable did not hold back on the details at all.
Sound and Emotion
As expected, the music drives every emotion, from tense build ups to heartbreaking motifs to pure adrenaline in battle. Weeb tears guaranteed. Along with some cheers and plenty of “are you serious?!” moments. Watching it in a cinema full of fans makes the experience that much better.
Final Verdict
If I were rating it (in full weeb fashion): 9.5 / 10.
It delivers nearly everything a fan could want — visuals, fights, and feels (insert tears). The flaws exist, sure, but none kill the experience. This part sets the bar incredibly high for the next instalments, and I’m already mentally preparing my tissues.
