The popular G2C Mountain Bike Race is gearing up for another exciting edition on 28 June 2026, continuing a tradition that has become one of the Eastern Cape’s standout cycling events.
Originally launched in 2013 through the collaboration between the Saints & Sinners Cycling Club and BUCO, the event has grown into a well-loved fixture on the local sporting calendar, attracting both experienced riders and newcomers looking to take on the scenic route from inland landscapes to the sea.
From Makhanda to the coast
Known for its mix of challenging terrain, breathtaking scenery and strong community atmosphere, the G2C route takes cyclists across some of the Eastern Cape’s most beautiful landscapes.
The race offers multiple route options, including a 58km route designed to cater to a wide range of riders, from recreational cyclists to seasoned racers. Riders can expect everything from steep climbs and technical descents to fast-paced single track sections.
For those wanting more of a challenge, a longer 70km route is also available. Gravel bikes and e-bikes are welcome, helping make the event more accessible to a broader cycling community.
More than just a race
Over the years, the event has become known not only for the cycling itself, but for the sense of camaraderie and community spirit surrounding it.
Previous editions of the race have supported local organisations and community initiatives, while also drawing visitors into the region and showcasing the Eastern Cape’s outdoor adventure offering.
The organisers describe the event as a celebration of cycling passion, endurance and local connection, with sponsors, volunteers and riders all playing a role in keeping the race growing year after year.
