At just 14 years old, Gqeberha-born karting driver Aashay Nagura is already making waves in the competitive world of motorsport.
Later this month, the Eastern Cape talent will represent South Africa in the Champions of the Future Academy series in the United Kingdom, one of the most prestigious development platforms for young racing drivers.
Aashay will compete across four iconic circuits including Silverstone Circuit, PFI Kart Circuit, Larkhall Circuit in Scotland and Wilton Mill Kart Circuit, racing against some of the most promising young drivers from around the world.
He currently races under Kokoro Racing Academy, affiliated with Kokoro Performance in the United Kingdom, while also competing locally in the OKJ class of the ROK Cup South Africa championship.
From PlayStation to the racetrack
Aashay’s love for racing began at home behind the wheel of virtual cars on his PlayStation. What started as a hobby soon turned into a serious dream.
Determined to pursue motorsport, he began saving money by doing extra chores around the house. After eventually purchasing a steering wheel and headset for his simulator, his commitment to racing only grew stronger.
His first step into real racing came through a fundraising raffle, which helped raise enough money to purchase a used go-kart and safety equipment. At just nine years old, Aashay officially began his karting journey.
Today, discipline plays a major role in his routine. Now homeschooled to accommodate his demanding schedule, Aashay begins most days training in the gym at 5:30am, followed by simulator practice, track training and online schooling, before finishing with another gym session.
Impressive early results
Despite his young age, Aashay has already delivered impressive performances both locally and internationally.
Recent highlights include:
- Winner – 2024 Port Elizabeth Mini ROK National Event
- 3rd Overall – 2024 IAME International Final, South Garda, Italy
- 3rd Overall – 2025 Northern Regional ROK Series (OKJ Rookie Season)
- 5th Overall – 2025 ROK Cup South African Nationals (OKJ), despite missing the opening event
Earlier this year, Aashay also travelled to Sweden for specialised driver training on a frozen lake, part of his preparation for a planned move into circuit car racing in 2027.
2026 race calendar
Aashay’s 2026 season includes both local and international competition:
- 20 March – ROK Cup Nationals, Red Star Raceway, Mpumalanga
- 28 March – Champions of the Future Academy, Silverstone Circuit, UK
- 10 May – ROK Cup Nationals, iDube Raceway, KwaZulu-Natal
- 15 May – Champions of the Future Academy, PFI Kart Circuit, UK
The international races will also be live streamed on YouTube, offering valuable exposure for potential sponsors and partners.
A future star in the making
While Aashay has already achieved notable success, he believes his journey is only just beginning.
“Every race is a chance to learn and improve. My dream is to race professionally one day and represent South Africa at the highest level of motorsport,” he says.
Currently competing without major commercial sponsorship, Aashay’s international campaign presents an opportunity for brands to support one of South Africa’s promising young motorsport talents as he works toward a professional racing career.
