Nu Metro cinemas are now screening Chainsaw Man, The Movie: Reze Arc. I see you targeting the weebs, Nu Metro, well played (take my money).
The film, which debuted in Japan on 19 September 2025, picks up right after Chainsaw Man Season 1 finishes. Denji is now officially “Chainsaw Man” with Public Safety Division 4, doing devil-hunter work while still trying to be a typical 16-year-old and chasing after girls.
The story begins after Denji has a date with Makima. Following that, he takes shelter from the rain and meets a mysterious girl who works at a café, Reze. Their relationship introduces new drama.
This is a vital point for Denji who has thus far been head over heels for Makima, so it will be interesting to see how this arc balances the emotional and action threads with Reze. With promises of escalating action and increasingly high stakes, the anticipation is high.
For manga readers, this is also where we see Denji’s maturity coming through as he battles the complexity of his new role as Chainsaw Man. With MAPPA at the helm, we can expect top-tier animation, especially during the battle scenes. Although I am curious as to how they are going to do the fight choreography and hoping they still have animators after this one considering how things turned out with Jujutsu Kaisen.
I’m hoping that since this is a movie, it will leave us satiated until the release of Season 2, so fingers crossed. Because speculation is part of the fun, my prediction is that it will leave us on a cliffhanger that will emotionally ruin us until Season 2.
(Manga fans calm down, I know you’re ahead, but for the rest of us, let us enjoy it.)
Hopefully this will set us up beautifully for the International Assassins Arc. So with all this in mind, if you haven’t re-read the arc or want a refresher, now’s a good time. When the film drops, you’ll want to catch every reference and nuance. Even if you don’t read the manga, this should be a solid entry point, provided you watched Season 1 recently enough to remember the setup.
