Worth the Stream? Upgraded (2024)

LOOKING for honest reviews on new and old movies and series? we have you covered, in this new series, Odette Parfitt has you covered and lets us know if it’s worth the stream.

Upgraded (2024)

Platform:

Prime Video

Basic plot:

Ana is essentially homeless; she lives on her sister’s couch, has an art history degree she can’t stop bragging about, and an internship with a stereotypically eccentric and difficult boss. When she goes on a work trip to London, an airline employee feels sorry for her and upgrades her flight to first class. Here she meets a guy and pretends to be way more successful than she is – and from there the lie just spirals out of control.

How it was probably pitched to the producers:

Who doesn’t dream of flying first class, and the life that comes with it?

Thoughts:

OK, so as a premise, it’s not exactly ambitious; the whole movie centres around her flying first class and lying about her life. Also, despite the whole down-and-out thing, the girl has incredible luck: nobody has ever felt sorry enough for me to give me a free upgrade to first class, and she does seem to catch a few other lucky breaks along the way.

Also, something about Archie Renaux’s face just makes me feel like he is the perfect casting for a more-than-vaguely-arrogant love interest. He’s in advertising – not the most lucrative field I’ve heard of – so you just know it’s mommy’s money that bought his first class ticket.

On that topic: his mother – who I adore – is a bit too involved in getting him together with our leading lady, but she gets away with it because she has dramatic flair on her side.

Bottom line – is it worth the stream?

For some reason, Rotten Tomatoes has given it a rating of 78%. I wouldn’t go that far, but if you’re looking for an easy enough romcom where things work out the way only a romcom can, then why not give it 104 minutes of your time?

Watch this if you like:
